HI!
My name is Anika Burrowes. I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a board-certified Social Worker. With over eleven years of experience in social work, I specialize in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Additionally, I have been a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist for over four years, focusing on solution-focused therapy.
My therapeutic approach is rooted in evidence-based practices informed by scripture. I integrate CBT to help individuals focus on changing negative thoughts and behaviors, promoting better mental health in alignment with God’s word. As indicated in Romans 12:2, believers are called to transform their thinking to align with God’s truth, which involves replacing negative thoughts with the teachings of the Bible.
Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT) helps clients envision their “preferred future” and identify small, actionable steps that can lead to significant transformation. This approach operates within a broader context of healing, where God is seen as the ultimate source of healing for emotional and spiritual wounds. This theme is emphasized in Philippians 3:13–14: "But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus."
Hello!
My name is Onika Burrowes, and I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, a board-certified social worker, and a school counselor. I have been a school counselor for four years, utilizing a cognitive behavioral approach in my sessions. In addition, I have practiced as a Marriage and Family Therapist for over four years, specializing in solution-focused therapy.
Throughout my counseling career, I have provided individual and group counseling sessions to students aged 10 to 18 years old. My counseling sessions focus on career development, academic achievement, social behavior, and mental and physical health.
I have gained extensive experience working with students with disabilities, providing crisis counseling, and offering trauma support. I also played a key role in organizing a wellness workshop for both students and staff. In addition to my expertise in student counseling, I also specialize in parenting coaching and crisis management. Additionally, my work with families and individuals as a therapist enables me to integrate various approaches beyond solution-focused therapy, thereby enhancing my skills.
My therapeutic approach is rooted in evidence-based practices informed by scripture. I integrate cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to help individuals focus on changing negative thoughts and behaviors, promoting better mental health in alignment with God’s word. The concept of "taking captive every thought" directly relates to challenging and changing unhelpful thoughts, which is a fundamental practice in CBT. As we submit these thoughts to Christ for obedience, as mentioned in 2 Corinthians 10:5, we can work towards transforming them.
Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT) helps clients envision their "preferred future" and identify small, actionable steps that can lead to significant transformation. This approach operates within a broader context of healing, where God is seen as the ultimate source of healing for emotional and spiritual wounds. As stated in Jeremiah 29:11: "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
